“One does not see with the eyes; one sees with the brain, which has dozens of different systems for analyzing the input from the eyes.” ― Oliver Sacks, Hallucinations
Learning to juggle (which I am not good at) is one of those experiences that forces you to turn off your mind and let your body take control of the action. Your eyes, hands, arms and mind work in unison and the coordination of motion and action creates a burst of excitement and joy. These never last long for me, because I can’t catch that well and catching is a big part of juggling. I’m good at throwing, but that’s only part of the puzzle. I’m not suggesting that by learning to juggle (ride a skateboard, play piano, throw axes, whatever) that you will improve your design chops and make you a creative superhero. But, learning a new skill will force your brian to create new neural pathways and this could trigger some new ideas–plus it’s good exercise.
