“Being a professional is doing the things you love to do, on the days you don’t feel like doing them.”––Julius Erving
I’m a bit of a basketball junkie and Dr. J, AKA Julius Erving, was one of my childhood heroes. He’s classic and his game and style is timeless. I was devastated when the 76ers lost the NBA finals in 1982. Oddly, my memories of the 76ers winning the championship the following year aren’t as sharp. Humans are wired this way for survival–but it’s not always healthy in this day and age. Our brains cling to things that hurt, to prevent it from happening again. To this day, watching basketball sometimes causes me anguish and anxiety. Usually this pain is overshadowed by the joy.
